Electronics, chargers, and rechargeable batteries are covered for a period of two years with proof of purchase. Normal wear and tear — including lamps burning out, batteries draining, and switches wearing out — is not covered, nor is damage resulting from abuse, neglect, battery leakage, use of other than SureFire-brand batteries or accessories, or altering this product from its original state. SureFire offers a 10-year limited warranty in any country or under any jurisdiction where specific restrictions exist on limited lifetime warranties.

Company History of SureFire

Dr. John Matthwes’ SureFire Story

SureFire’s company history is parallel with the story of light. It all started in 1969 when a Cal Tech PhD, Dr. John Matthews launched a company named Newport Corp. to work on laser for industrial applications. Dr. Matthews’ company grew pretty fast in the laser industry and was awarded many patents in the field.

How did an industrial laser company start to manufacture flashlights? Dr. Matthews did the same thing many others would do. He’s combined his knowledge in laser with his hobby shooting. His patent for laser to be used as a sight on firearms was approved in 1979. Even though initial product was quite large, many hours of research were put into improving the initial product and concept. Dr. Matthews and a team of technical people from Newport Corporation have formed a new company called Laser Products to focus on improving and creating commercial products of laser sights for guns.

Dr. Matthews created a handgun sight for a Colt Trooper as the company’s first product. During the 1984 Olympic Games held in Los Angeles, a number of laser sighted shotguns were used by the LAPD SWAT Team.

After many years of research & development to find a commercially viable laser product, Dr. John Matthews has created the weapon-mounted flashlight to help solve the law enforcement’s problems.

During low-light operations, SureFire WeaponLight became a life saver for both military and law enforcement personnel.

Laser Products went on to establish itself as the leading manufacturer of powerful, rugged and compact illumination tools for tactical applications with a wide range of products from weapon-mounted lights and laser sights, shield lights and baton lights to hand-held lights powerful and bright enough to qualify as “force-option” tools that could temporarily blind, unbalance, and disorient a threat.
